Manyo Plange was a Ghanaian professional boxer who held the WBA Lightweight Championship from 1971 to 1972. He is considered one of the greatest African boxers of all time.
Plange began his professional boxing career in 1967. He quickly rose through the ranks, and in 1971 he challenged Ismael Laguna for the WBA Lightweight Championship. Plange won the fight by knockout in the 12th round, and became the first African boxer to win a world title in the lightweight division.
Plange defended his title successfully against Ken Buchanan in 1972, but he lost the title to Roberto Duran in 1972. Plange continued to fight for several more years, and he retired in 1979 with a record of 52-17-3.
Plange was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2000.
